How To Defeat Writer's Block FAST!

Image
If you write, sooner or later writer's block will come for you. But what is it? Writer's block is the inability to produce new work or at the very least, a lack of creativity. Today, I'll be discussing a few ways that will help you beat write's block fast! 1. Write through it - I said it before and I'll say it again - as strange as it sounds, the best way to beat writer's block is to write through it. You may be wondering how you can write if you're having a meantal block, but you don't have to write on the project at hand. Try writing a short story or an article on a current event. Once those creative juices start flowing, it won't be long until you have the steam to work on your main project.  2. Use writing prompts. Writing prompts are a great way to beat writer's block. Quick writing projects can get your wheels turning and set you on the right track quick! A good writing prompt excercise may even spark an idea for your next body of work.  3....

3 Writing Hang Ups to Give Up Now

Image
If you write, you know how easy it is get off track. Today I'll be discussing 3 writing hang up's that you need to give up right NOW to meet your goals.  1. You have to be inspired. You hear it all the time, inspiration this, inspiration that. I too have found myself muttering that "I just don't feel inspired." Make no mistake, this is no reason not to write (if that's your goal). It's a wonderful thing if you're motivated to write. It's a magical moment when something sparks your creativity and you get into "go mode". But while this may be preferred it certainly isn't necessary. In fact, if you wait around to get "that feeling" you just might do yourself a disservice. Sometimes you just have to write - whether you want to or not - whether it's good or not. Writer's block is real, but it's best fought by writing. If you've hit a slump with your story, write on a blog. If you have nothing to blog about, wri...

Things I Love That Aren't Writing

Image
It's no secret that I love to write. Ever since I was a little girl I created elaborate stories in my head. As a result, I played with dolls much longer than I'll ever admit to here (shout-out to all the innocents). But when I'm not writing there's no lack of things for me to enjoy. I'm sharing some of my loves here in hopes that you'll do the same - lets get to know each other better.  1. My Family - If you follow me on social media, you've probably figured out that I love my family. There is nothing I rather do than spend time with my loved ones. I've been unspeakably blessed to have some really great people in my life and I don't take it for granted. Without a doubt, my #1 favorite thing to so is create memories with those that I love.  2. Houses. I love historic houses, new builds, unique domains, and off the grid residences. I simply LOVE homes. I can spend an unusual amount of time looking at sites like Zillow or watching YouTube, touring home...

Things I Wish I Didn't Have to Do as a Writer

Image
I love writing, truly I do. But there are still things I just wish I didn't have to do. Today, I'll let you in on some of them. 1 . Editing . I love writing, but editing is another story. First of all, I really don't know all the rules of writing. I regularly bypass the rules for what sounds right, and grammar? Forget about it! I'm the queen of Ebonics, double-negatives, and whatever else they try to unlearn you in school. But not only do I hate the technical aspects of editing, I despise having to delete things. That "I said what I said" attitude definitely doesn't serve me well in writing. Similar to when I have to delete some of my kids photos, it just doesn't feel right--even if it's not the best picture. Bottom line, editing sucks! 2. Writing Sex Scenes . Talk about awkward...I absolutely HATE writing sex scenes! However, seeing that romance is my genre of choice, I don't see myself getting around it anytime soon. I always feel so dumb wh...

The Definition of a Writer: Writing Prompt

Image
Hey Guys & welcome back. Not long ago, I thought up this quote and it really got the wheels to turning. I figured, why not turn this into a writing prompt? Admittedly, sci-fi wasn't the direction I was trying to go in when I wrote this, but here's the prompt: Tell me what you do for a living (or aspire to do) in a way that could be used as an idea for a paranormal story. Got it? This should be good 😊 Please, feel free to share your responses below. I'd love to read them. Happy Writing!

How to Write a GOOD Book Review

Image
Books reviews are extremely important in the life of an author. And while I'm sure that most authors appreciate any good review, believe it or not there's a right way to write one. Before you roll your eyes, this isn't a school lesson and writing a review shouldn't be taxing to the reader. Today, I'll show you how to write a good book review in 4 simple steps. 1. Give a Star Rating. A star rating on it's on really doesn't give potential readers much information. However, when added to a review, it wraps up nicely just what you think about the story (one being the least and five being the greatest). Be sure to select a star rating that's reflective of the review you will provide. There's nothing more frustrating to an author than giving their book three stars and then going on to gush about how much you like the story.  2. Provide a brief summary WITHOUT giving away the story. Please guys, whatever you do, don't tell important details to the st...

4 Reasons Not to Become an Author

Image
There's so many reasons to love writing and pursue a career doing it, but there are a few reasons not to. Today, we'll explore some of the reasons why you should NOT become an author. 1. You Want a Quick Come Up. If you want to become an author simply because you think it's a quick way to make some cash, think again. Being an author isn't as glamorous as you might expect. Most authors won't reach the numbers of J.K Rowling or be fortunate enough to have their books make it to the big screen. If you decide to become an author, it should be because you love writing.  2. You Think it's Prestigious. There's some professions that just sound good, you know, doctors, professors, authors. .. If you want to be an author just because it sounds distinguished, you probably should change directions. It's so much more to being a writer than standing around waiting on the off chance that someone asks what you do. Besides, writing is a classic "starving artist...
